Revitalising Redesdale  is seeking to develop an events programme to involve local people and visitors in learning more about the cultural and natural history of Redesdale. As well as getting involved in existing local events such as Rede Fest, the Upper Redesdale Show , Elsdon Show, and the Corsenside Leek and Vegetable show, we plan to put on plenty of events ourselves from lectures and walks, to story telling festivals and opportunities to work with local artists. It is planned to make a total of £50,000 available over the five years until December 2023 for a Redesdale Community Heritage Fund This fund is intended to support community groups, organisations or individuals seeking financial assistance with additional projects which meet the Revitalising Redesdale’s objectives. Grants are available to encourage original community projects that help people look after, learn about, extend understanding of and celebrate Redesdale’s unique landscape and heritage. This project would aim to build on the work which is currently been undertaken at Rupert’s Wood, an environmental education project, which links student volunteers from Newcastle with disadvantaged groups in Tyneside and Northumberland. The project uses Rupert’s Wood for wild play, overnight camping to work with children, young people and vulnerable adults to build self-esteem and confidence by giving project participants access to outdoor experiences and opportunities for skills development.
