Celebrate the Forestry Commission centenary with this guided walk along Forestry Commission trails and back along the Pennine Way.

Starting from the small church at Byrness which served the construction “towns” of Newcastle and Gateshead during the construction of Catcleugh Reservoir, we follow recently improved Forestry Commission tracks to the cosy little Bothy at Spithope.

Leaving the Forest we climb to join the Pennine Way at Ravens Knowe and journey south via the quaintly named “Houx” Hill before descending through the forest to our starting point.
