A colourful evening of storytelling & song, exploring the extraordinary history of the Battle of Otterburn & medieval Elsdon – all welcome!

You are invited to join us at historic St Cuthbert’s Church for a lively programme of stories, ballads and sword-play. We will be telling the story of the Battle of Otterburn in August 1388 and the discovery of medieval burials in the church in 1877 – and all about the 500-year-old sword that might just connect the two.

  • Hear from the church team about the historic Silloans sword and see (and hold!) the replica they have commissioned.
  • Find out the latest news from the archaeological dig at the Battle of Otterburn site from Geoffrey Carter of the UK Battlefields Trust.
  • Enjoy historic insights, songs, ballads and sword-play by the costumed Time Bandits, John Sadler and Beverley Palin.
  • Listen to new writing inspired by the sword, battle and burials by members of Elsdon Writing Group.

Light refreshments will be served.

This event is FREE but booking is essential – numbers are limited to enable safe distancing inside our historic church. Please wear a mask if you can.

This event is supported by Revitalising Redesdale Community Heritage Fund and National Heritage Lottery Fund.
